Maja Bogdanović has taken a firm place among today’s foremost cellists as a soloist, chamber musician and educator. Recent and upcoming concerto engagements include the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, Tokyo Philharmonic, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Belgrade Philharmonic, Berliner Symphoniker, Johannesburg Philharmonic, Cape Town Philharmonic, Fort Worth Symphony, Bad Reichenhaller Philharmoniker and the English Symphony Orchestra. Within her broad repertoire, Maja devotes a special place to contemporary music. 

A sought-after guest at the world’s leading chamber music venues and festivals, Maja performs with artists such as Martha Argerich, Yuri Bashmet, Julian Rachlin, Nino Gvetadze, Nemanja Radulovic, Anna Fedorova, Marianna Shirinyan and the new Arethusa Quartet that brings Maja together with the like-minded spirits of Daniel Rowland, Floor Le Coultre and Dana Zemtsov. 

Having released several internationally acclaimed albums, she released Lalo & Saint-Saëns Cello Concertos together with the RTS Symphony Orchestra and conductor Bojan Sudjić in 2023. It led to rave reviews in a.o. NRC and De Volkskrant, a 5-star review in Diapason, Album of the Week features in the UK and Netherlands, Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik nomination, Podium Klassiek TV performance, the cover story of Cliq Musique, and articles in The Strad and Luister Magazine. Scherzo wrote that “Her sound is silky, bright but intimate, seductive but fierce - imperial in all registers.” Diapason concluded that “This magnificent French program confirms that Maja Bogdanović is one of the most interesting performers today.” 

Graduated with a First Prize from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, Maja completed her postgraduate course with Michel Strauss. Her instrument was custom made by French luthier Frank Ravatin. She lives in Amsterdam with her husband Daniel Rowland and their two daughters.
